Why see a podiatrist?

Many foot problems are underestimated until they get worse. A lesion, an ingrown toenail, the first signs of a diabetic foot or overlapping toes in a child (clinodactyly) need to be recognised and treated in time. The podiatrist is the only university-qualified healthcare professional specialised in foot care: acting early means avoiding pain, infections and complications.

How is an ingrown toenail treated?

The causes can vary — incorrect cutting, nail shape, trauma or unsuitable footwear — and, if neglected, an ingrown toenail can become inflamed, infected and worsen over time.

The specialist podiatrist can pinpoint the exact cause of the problem and define the most appropriate treatment path to resolve the condition effectively.

I have diabetes: why should I have my feet checked?

Diabetes can reduce sensitivity and circulation in the foot: small lesions can go unnoticed and quickly become complicated. Regular podiatric check-ups make it possible to classify the risk, prevent ulcers and act in time. Preventing an ulcer today means avoiding far more serious complications tomorrow.

My child has overlapping toes: can they be corrected?

Yes. In children, the misalignment of the toes (clinodactyly) can be corrected with custom silicone toe orthotics: painless and well tolerated, they gradually realign the toes during growth and prevent permanent deformities in adulthood. An early assessment is essential.
